The University has its own train station (Macquarie University Station) allowing for easy access to the city. To travel from the airport to the Macquarie University Station take the train at the domestic terminal and travel to Central, then from Central to Chatswood, then finally get the Metro (robot train) from Chatswood to Macquarie University Station.
