Digital MedTech: Bridging the Gap

This Digital MedTech session will explore the barriers, opportunities and solutions for digital health uptake in the Australian MedTech sector. The session is positioned around the launch of the Medical Technology Association of Australia’s (MTAA) digital health white paper “Bridging the Gap: Navigating the Barriers and Opportunities of Digital Health in Australia's MedTech Industry”

Sub-sessions include:
  • Key findings and recommendations of the MTAA digital health report
  • Digital health expert panel discussion and Q&A
  • Insights and Q&A with the Co-Chairs of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport
Learning objectives:
  • An understanding of the current state of digital health of the MedTech industry
  • Discover and discuss barriers and opportunities for increased digital health update
  • Review recommended policy solutions to address specific digital health gaps facing MedTech
  • Gaining a deeper insight into the political decision-making process
  • Gaining insight into policy-making process

She is the Editor of Briefing Books at the American Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies. Her editorial contributions play a pivotal role in disseminating emerging research and advancements in the field of behavioral and cognitive therapies to lay audiences. She is a member of the American Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, the American Institute for Stress, and the Australian Sleep Association. Through her involvement in these organizations, she actively contributes to the advancement of knowledge and collaboration in the fields of psychiatry, rehabilitation, and sleep medicine. Her research is affiliated with HMRI, renowned for its commitment to excellence in medical and translational research. Through her affiliation, she collaborates with leading experts and benefits from innovative facilities and resources.

Biography

Commencing her professional life as a nurse and subsequently nurse educator, Deidre then transitioned to a career in Human Resources followed by senior management and executive roles within the public health sector. A move into the not-for-profit space saw her working at Multiple Sclerosis Australia, taking on the role of CEO. With a passion for the importance of the patient voice in federal policy, Deidre initially took on the role of co-chair of the Australian Patient Advocacy Alliance, a newly formed collective of peak patient organisations representing people living with chronic and complex disease. A move out of full-time employment created an opportunity to support the Alliance as a consultant where she continues as Executive Officer. In addition to her consulting business, Deidre is also the board chair of St Kilda Mums, a Victorian based charity focused on rehoming pre-loved nursery goods to support families in challenging circumstances with the opportunity to provide their baby with a safe start in life.

Biography

Dr Rob Grenfell, a Public Health Physician, is the Chief Strategy and Regions Officer for Grampians Health. He also holds the following roles as a Special Advisor Health for the CSIRO, the Chair of Biogrid board, Member of Australian Institute of Clinical Governance advisory committee and Advisor SGH Medical Technology Fund. He was recently the Director of CSIRO’s Health and Biosecurity Business Unit. Leading a broad portfolio covering Nutrition, eHealth, Medtech and Diagnostics and Biosecurity. He has played a significant role in Australia’s response to COVID19, which he continues to do with CSIRO and the local Public Health Unit.

Biography

Andrew’s Career in Healthcare spans 35 years. In his current role Andrew has responsibility for Healthcare Policy, supporting AWS public policy teams across the APAC region Previously Andrew led the Health Economics, Market Access, Policy and Government and Stakeholder Relations functions for Medtronic in Australia and New Zealand, in addition to coordinating Government Affairs for the APAC region. Before that Andrew had a variety of roles within Healthcare organisations across business and functional leadership. In addition to his Medtech experience, Andrew started his career as a Registered Nurse and has worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry as well as a brief stint in the Hospitality Industry. He holds a MBA from the University of New England and a BA in Media from Griffith University. He is an ARCS Australia Board Member and is Vice Chair of the MTAA Connected Health Advisory Group and Co-Chair if the US-ASEAN Business Council Digital Health Committee.
