Biography

Rachel Dunscombe is AI Council member for the UK government and Visiting Professor at Imperial College London, UK, Co-chair of OpenEHR CiC and Chief Industry Advisor of the global health software company Dedalus,. She has over 25 years’ experience in the UK National Health Service (NHS), academia, management consulting, and the technology industry. Rachel was previously Chief Executive Officer of the NHS Digital Academy, leading postgraduate education programs both nationally and internationally, and the National Care Alliance Director of Digital and Group Chief Information Officer at the Royal Salford NHS Hospital in Greater Manchester, UK, where she implemented data science and AI approaches to health and wellbeing. Recently she led the KLAS Research Arch Collaborative International initiative for electronic health record optimization and supported the ‘Big 4’, consulting in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Europe, and low–middle income countries. Rachel is also Health Lead for the UK government’s artificial intelligence roadmap and contributed to policy including the UK AI strategy.

Biography

Liz Salmi is Communications & Patient Initiatives Director for OpenNotes at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. In this role, Liz aims to better understand the changing nature of patient-clinician communication in an age of increasing health information transparency. She does this by working alongside clinicians, hospitals, health systems, researchers, and most importantly, in partnership with patient advocates. Over the last 15 years Liz has been: a research subject; an advisor in patient stakeholder groups; a leader in patient engagement research initiatives; and an innovator, educator and investigator in international education and research projects. Today her work focuses on involving patients and care partners in the co-design of research and research dissemination. In 2021, Liz and colleagues were awarded a $12.8 million Center Grant from the National Cancer Institute to determine optimal methods for patient enrollment in a cancer registry—designed in partnership with patients. It is rumored Liz was the drummer in a punk rock band.

Biography

Dr Louise Schaper is an innovator and a change agent who doesn’t sit still and whose passion and enthusiasm for digital health and health informatics is contributing to shaping the future of Australian healthcare. Her appointment as CEO came on the back of 10+ years of experience in, and applied passion for, health informatics. With a background as an occupational therapist and a PhD on technology acceptance amongst healthcare professionals, Louise is a world leader in allied health informatics and is intimately connected to Australia’s substantial health reform efforts, where digital health is a key enabler to achieving high quality, safe, sustainable and patient-centred care. In addition to her leadership of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health, Louise was on the Advisory Board for Stanford Medicine X 2013  conference, was part of the Australian Digital Health Agency’s Clinical Leads team and previously chaired the E-Health International Advisory Group of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

Professor Trish Williams is Cisco Chair and Professor in Digital Health Systems at Flinders University in South Australia, Director of the Flinders Digital Health Research Centre and the Cisco-Flinders Digital Health Design Lab. She holds a leadership position in the College of Science and Engineering in research, IT/Software Engineering/Security/Health Informatics disciplines and in staff supervision. As International Co-Chair of HL7 Security, and Australian expert on security, software and safety on health informatics ISO standards (Technical Committee 215), she builds on over 30 years of experience in healthcare computing including 15 years’ industry experience in general practice and pharmacy computing.

Biography

Affiliate Assoc Prof Cooper is an accomplished digital health and health information management expert with a diverse background in medical research, digital health, organization change, bioinformatics, and tertiary education. He is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion and excels in engaging effectively with stakeholders from government, education, and private sectors. He actively participates in several health areas relating to Australia's ageing society and digital divide, providing guidance on Telehealth, AI in Healthcare, Workplaces of the Future, and Virtual Healthcare research. He serves on the St. Vincent's Healthcare Human Research Ethics Committee as well as boards and advisory committees on health, education and biotechnology. He is currently serving as a sessional Unit Chair (School of Medicine) and a Senior Research Fellow with the Deakin University Institute for Health Transformation where one of his current interests is increasing the pace of digital transformation in Australian healthcare and reducing the impact of the digital divide on Australia's ageing society.
