Details

This session contains two 40 minute workshops.

Workshop: Inclusion of digital health in the International Standard Classification of Occupations: Developing an international submission

This workshop will explore the lack of representation of digital health in the international and various national occupation classifications and the history of national submissions to see recognition of this specialist workforce as an occupational group. The activities in the workshop will allow participants to explore why it is important to have this workforce recognized as an occupational group and what a submission to be included as a unit group would include. Participants will also have an opportunity to nominate to continue to be involved in an international submission and what they can do to change national classifications to recognize the specialist digital health workforce as an occupational group.

Learning objectives:
By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:
  • Have a sound understanding about the structure of the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08) and the history of classifications internationally and nationally,
  • Be aware of how the various occupations within the specialist digital health workforce are currently represented in the ISCO-08 and the national classifications from various countries,
  • Co-design a unit group description with a classification of occupations representing the specialist digital health workforce,
  • Be able to nominate to continue to participate in a submission to the ISCO to change the classification to include a unit group “Digital Health”,
  • Know how they can approach changing their own national classification to include digital health.

Workshop: Building a global public health informatics workforce

This workshop is about developing public health informatics workforce domains. These domains will be compared to both the IMIA medical informatics competencies and the recently developed AMIA PHI competencies. This initial effort is expected to lead to ongoing engagement with IMIA members to develop candidate PHI skills and competencies for training programs.
