This session contains two 40 minute panels

Panel: The age of possibility: Developing the next generation of health and social care leaders

Increasing and ageing populations, and a surge in moral distress and burn-out in health and social care workforces, pose unprecedented challenges to global healthcare systems. Clinicians juggle provision of person-centred care, while managers deal with appropriate staffing and economic resourcing pressures. Those who work in health and social care face both professional and personal challenges. However, there is an opportunity; younger demographic cohorts are beginning to comprise much of the global health and social care workforce. They bear responsibility, and privilege of enacting necessary changes to ensure that health and social care systems are fit for purpose. The goal is value-based care, delivered through the Quadruple Aim of improved health outcomes, health and social care user and workforce experience, and lower cost of care. Young health professionals experience the burden of expectations and inherit transforming health and social care. However, their perspectives are often misunderstood. During this panel session, thought leaders will discuss different perspectives of this contentious topic and lead robust discussion about emerging digital workforce expectations in terms of technology, education, and career satisfaction and advancement, as well as reality of their experience for the future.

Panel: The evolution of health informatics reflected in publications

The editor of a book series established in 1988 with over 120 titles in 2022 joins with the editors-in-chief of three scholarly informatics journals to discuss how their publications have evolved with the discipline of health informatics. The panelists review the role of their respective publications in supporting and responding to changes in a discipline that has expanded to include areas such as applied clinical alongside traditional medical and nursing informatics. Topics range from establishing a presence that draws authors and subscribers, to taking advantage of the impact of e-publishing on access and metrics.
