Details
Today will see a comprehensive overview of the application of standards, how systems and data can connect through the adoption of standards, and how we can action practical change. Among others, we will hear from national and international approaches to interoperability, the latest advancements in SNOMED terminology, practical insights in FHIR, the importance of driving industry collaboration and connection through IHE, and the use of resulting data for research and decision making.
Through all this we will have a focus on a workable case study on population health and Centres of Disease Control to ground our understanding and learning. This day will be great day to attend, and pre-cursor to Day 2 which will focus on the International Patient Summary as a strategic initiative in Europe and other parts of the world.
Learning Outcomes:Understand the standards eco system.
Understand the key standards which support consistent data definition, data access, data sharing, and data use to support interoperability between systems and population health (with a Centre of Disease Control example).
Practical examples and links to resources to take home for reference.

Heather Leslie is an experienced clinician and informatician, especially as a ‘little data’ specialist. She led the openEHR clinical modelling program from inception and has a proven track record in the design of standardised health data and data set specifications; clinical knowledge governance; and clinician and domain expert engagement.

Biography
Rachel Dunscombe is AI Council member for the UK government and Visiting Professor at Imperial College London, UK, Co-chair of OpenEHR CiC and Chief Industry Advisor of the global health software company Dedalus,. She has over 25 years’ experience in the UK National Health Service (NHS), academia, management consulting, and the technology industry. Rachel was previously Chief Executive Officer of the NHS Digital Academy, leading postgraduate education programs both nationally and internationally, and the National Care Alliance Director of Digital and Group Chief Information Officer at the Royal Salford NHS Hospital in Greater Manchester, UK, where she implemented data science and AI approaches to health and wellbeing. Recently she led the KLAS Research Arch Collaborative International initiative for electronic health record optimization and supported the ‘Big 4’, consulting in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Europe, and low–middle income countries. Rachel is also Health Lead for the UK government’s artificial intelligence roadmap and contributed to policy including the UK AI strategy.

I have acquired a wide range of experience across many different industries, technologies and roles. I have worked as a developer, technical team leader, technical architect, group leader, strategic IT consultant and executive lead on projects spanning the private and government sectors, in industries as diverse as travel, healthcare and smart energy.
I have a diverse set of technical skills and bring team working and interpersonal skills to bridge the gap between technology and the other disciplines across an organisation. I am very focused on the need for innovative solutions to deliver value to both users and the business, cutting through unnecessary bureaucracy to an end product.

Grahame Grieve is HL7's Product Director for "FHIR" - the leading healthcare data exchange standard of the future. Grahame has a background in laboratory medicine, software vendor development, clinical research, open source development and has also conceived, developed and sold interoperability and clinical document solutions and products in the Australian market and around the world. Grahame has worked to develop standards and solutions with several US vendor consortiums, and the national programs of Canada, England, Singapore, and Australia. In the last decade, Grahame has focused on nurturing and leading the FHIR community around the world.
