Biography
I'm a medical doctor with PhD in Information Systems and a Founding Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (FAIDH). Having significant experience in digital health, in particular electronic health records (EHR) and interoperability, I am passionate about making ICT reach its full potential in healthcare. I serve as CHIO at The Clinician, a digital health company, that creates beautiful apps to engage patients, collect patient reported outcome/experience measures (PROMs and PREMs) and objective data from wearables and medical devices to create actionable insights and drive value-based care.

Associate Professor Barakat-Johnson has extensive experience as a leader in pressure injury prevention and wound management and is the Clinical Lead and Nurse Manager for Skin Integrity at the Sydney Local Health District (four hospitals and five community health centres). Affiliate Assoc Prof Cooper is an accomplished digital health and health information management expert with a diverse background in medical research, digital health, organization change, bioinformatics, and tertiary education. He is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion and excels in engaging effectively with stakeholders from government, education, and private sectors. He actively participates in several health areas relating to Australia's ageing society and digital divide, providing guidance on Telehealth, AI in Healthcare, Workplaces of the Future, and Virtual Healthcare research. He serves on the St. Vincent's Healthcare Human Research Ethics Committee as well as boards and advisory committees on health, education and biotechnology. He is currently serving as a sessional Unit Chair (School of Medicine) and a Senior Research Fellow with the Deakin University Institute for Health Transformation where one of his current interests is increasing the pace of digital transformation in Australian healthcare and reducing the impact of the digital divide on Australia's ageing society.
