Details

This session contains two 40 minute workshops.

Workshop: Designing education to foster learning health systems

This workshop has been designed for either those who have established LHS-focused programs or curricula or those who are curious and contemplating building a LHS education program. We have balanced the experiences of long established UMich with more recently developed UoM to allow the audience a broad perspective on the development of LHS education to date and its future directions. Through our international collaborators' shared learnings, this workshop will also provide a platform for a richer global understanding of LHS education program development

Learning objectives:
  • Outline potential skills and concepts fostered in a Learning Health System (LHS) education program
  • Review various methods and approaches for fostering LHS skills and concepts
  • Describe challenges and strategies in the support of an education program focused on fostering LHS

Workshop: Designing workforce development to enable the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare

This workshop has been designed for participants with a broad interest in healthcare workforce education and their needs; the general future of the healthcare workforce; developing an artificial intelligence focused programme or curricula. The workshop will encourage interdisciplinary participants and collaboration across academic researchers, clinicians, computer scientists, engineers, health informaticians and educators and all those with an interest in contributing to the education of the current and future workforce. We have balanced the experiences of The University of Manchester with the learnings from the more recently established University of Melbourne, Centre for Digital Transformation of Health, bringing together an international shared perspective and best practice. This provides a broad and international perspective, as well as a range of case studies on the development of artificial intelligence education in healthcare to date and contemplates the future directions of the field. Through our international collaboration, we will share our thoughts around effective teaching of artificial intelligence in shared global classrooms. This will provide a platform for a richer global discussion and shared understanding of the needs and requirements of artificial intelligence in healthcare and promote more tailored education programme development moving forward.

Ultimately, the goal of the workshop is to develop networks with digital transformation educators and key stakeholders who can develop the ideas generated within the workshop. It is hoped that the workshop will help to build a community of practice of educators with shared interested in AI education.

Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss the current needs of the healthcare workforce in understanding the applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare
  • Outline potential skills and concepts to be fostered in an artificial intelligence in healthcare education program
  • Review case studies of the various methods and approaches for fostering artificial intelligence and machine learning skills and concepts for health professionals
  • Describe challenges and strategies in developing education program focused on fostering artificial intelligence approaches
